Towards the North Adriatic cross border Hydrogen Valley

To become the first of its kind, this hydrogen valley crossing borders between Italy, Slovenia and Croatia will be becoming a reality after the historic meeting between high ranking representatives of the three countries.
Energy transition while thousands of jobs of the future will be created by 2030.

The 24th of November 2021, three nations, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia came together to endorse the support to create the North Adriatic cross border Hydrogen Valley.

The historic event took place in the Europa / Transalpina Square with the presence of the three high ranking representatives,
Mr. Blaž Košorok, State Secretary at Ministry of Infrastructure, Slovenia,
Mr. Sebastiano Callari, Ministry of Information and Technology, Friuli Venezia Giulia,
Mr. Ivo Milatić, State Secretary at Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Croatia.

The presence of local authorities, companies and research communities from several countries such Mr. Paolo Guglia, Mr. Luigi Crema, Mr. Patrick Cnubben, Mr. Enrique Troncoso, Mr. Stephan Herbst, Dr. David Gerbec, Dr. Matjaž Knez, Mr. Tomaž Vuk, Dr. Rodolfo Tacanni, Mr. Bart Biebuyck, Mr. Aleksander Gerbec and from the European Commission, Mr. Luca Polizzi.

The first hydrogen refuelling station

Earlier that morning, another historic event happened. The opening of the first hydrogen refuelling station at the SALONIT ANHOVO cement factory, opening the path towards the North Adriatic cross border Hydrogen Valley.

The Cutting Ribbon was performed by Ms. Tina Gerbec, Mayor of Kanal ob Soči and Mr. Darko Trajanov, Sustainable transport, head, Ministry of Infrastructure.

Some projections

It is all about and in the context of the European Green Deal.
The North Adriatic cross border Hydrogen Valley will contribute to the realisation of a potential of 45.000 jobs and 3.6bEUR per year added value in the three countries by 2030.

Will kickstart the hydrogen economy in the three countries and attract the interest of the hydrogen industry and investors.

Will bring local private and public partners together in synergy and accelerate the energy transition.

Getting involved

As Mr. Aleksander Gerbec, CEO ECUBES, commented : “ The North Adriatic Cross-Border Hydrogen Valley will bring together stakeholders from across the region and has immense potential for provision of clean energy of the future and attainment of environment targets, and allows building a competitive and innovative North Adriatic region with several new highly specialized jobs of the future. ” , entities and individuals from private and public sectors will be contributing to the progress and realization of this important project.

The conference

This historic meeting started with a conference in the city of Nova Gorica, Slovenia, where hydrogen industry information and experience got shared and exchanged between all parties present, from several countries.

Opening and welcome speech was performed by the Mayor of Nova Gorica, Dr. Klemen Miklavič.
